The history of Guinness
The history of Guinness goes way back to 1759 and was started in Ireland and it began in a place called the St. James's Gate Brewery, which is located in Dublin. This company was started by Arthur Guinness, who bought this brewery on December 31st back in 1759. This company has become one of the most successful brewery companies of this time. It wasn't until ten years later after his purchase of the brewery that he sold his first shipment of ale to London.
Arthur Guinness developed his style of stout beer from a manuscript called the Egerton Manuscript which was created fifty years before Arthur was even born. The first terms he used for his dark beer were termed Single Stout and Double Stout which he started selling in 1840.
Arthur Guinness' stout earned the coined phrases such as; Black stuff and Pint of Plain. Guinness became so popular it was even used by the famous Irish poet Flann O'Brien which referred to the brew as the working man's friend.
