Brighten up your neckline with the cheeriness of the Claddagh August birthstone necklace.
The Claddagh symbol is a solid relic of Irish culture, but its story is debatable.
One account claims that a young man named Richard Joyce left his beloved in Galway in the late 17th century to work as a servant in the West Indies. While en route, he was kidnapped by pirates and enslaved to a goldsmith for years. Trained by his master to become a skilled craftsman, Joyce crafted the first Claddagh ring for his love when he was finally released and returned home to find his paramour still faithfully waiting for him.
The Claddagh symbol consists of two hands representing friendship holding a heart signifying love. Atop the heart is a crown symbolizing loyalty.
In this circular, sterling silver pendant, the Claddagh symbol sits at the bottom of the circle.
It also features three gleaming white CZ stones sitting next to each hand, as well as a bright peridot stone at the center of the heart.
As the birthstone for August, the peridot is a lime green gem symbolizing strength, growth, and prosperity.
Set against sterling silver, the peridot lends the necklace a sprightly daintiness that can cheer up anyone.
